ABOUT US

The home of the WHOF is the McRae Community Building-Mound City, Mo. at the north end of Nebraska Street, and offers excellent dining pleasure, as well as interesting waterfowl displays.

Waterfowlers Hall of Fame is a 501(c) (3) organization.    Donations to this not for profit are tax deductible.

Contact person is Joe Laukemper, at P.O. Box 68, Mound City, Mo. 64470 or laukemper1@squawcreek.net

Purpose:

  • 1. To honor inductees who have contributed in unique ways to the sport of waterfowling.  (Most particularly the central flyway and the Mound City, MO area created by the 8,000 acre Squaw Creek National Wildlife Refuge in Northwest Missouri.)

  • 2. To gather and preserve artifacts of interest to interested persons.

  • 3. To tell the story, to share the camaraderie.

  • 4. To proved a unique place to gather and an event for reunions of old acquaintances.

The stories that the inductees tell, or others tell about them, that leave a memory and a legacy of the waterfowl resources from this unparalleled area.

It is understandable that other areas enjoy the waterfowl resource and value of wetlands. It is not a goal to create a competition for other areas to follow and a “who is best and/or who is better philosophy.” To truly enjoy nature, a monument does not need to be built. Surprisingly, it is the hunters who have the greatest interest in preserving the resource. The entertainment resource provided by waterfowling activities is not defined by brick and mortar, but rather getting out into the outdoor seasons and enjoying family traditions of not only hunting, bird watching, but generally communing with nature.
